Two Years!

In celebration of our two-years-in-Germany day, we’re gonna take the train here:

Neuschwanstein Castle

Neuschwanstein Castle was the intended home of a king who was allegedly murdered because he spent too much money building castles. It’s not very old; construction started around 1869.

It’s probably going to be awesome. The problem is that we haven’t actually planned the transportation part of this trip yet, we’re leaving tomorrow, and it’s already 10 pm. This is mostly due to our Scrabble game.

I’m notoriously bad at word games. The Internet recommends a point handicap, but it’s not clear how large my handicap needs to be when Alissa responds to my “hat” (double word score on the A!) with bingos like “Xenophobia” (two triple word scores). A thousand?

So after a few losses in which we’ve adjusted the rules, I’ve started playing her with the following rules:

  • I get 4 extra tiles, for 11 total.
  • If at any point during the game, I take the lead for more than two turns, I instantly win.
  • If she doubles my score at any point in the game, she wins, and I don’t have to play anymore.

Also, I’m trying to play her only when she’s really tired at night.

This post isn’t very focused because I’m trying to write and play at the same time.

Okay, I gotta focus. Here’s to another great year!

I realize that it looks like you haven’t posted to your blog in quite a while, but I have to tell this little story anyway. I was just grocery shopping at Aldi, and saw this crazy cone-shaped giant cabbage. So, naturally, I went home and Googled “German giant cone cabbage,” and you may or may not be proud to know that your cone-shaped-cabbage picture and blog post popped up. Thus explains how I innocently started blog-stalking you. I have to say that my husband and I just moved to Germany 2 months ago from Colorado, we also don’t speak a lick of German, and your blog quite literally has me crying with laughter. The pillows. The pillows! I also appreciate your beer appreciation and willingness to conquer any meat product (shudder). I feel like we may be your doppelgangers, just 2 years behind and over in Bavaria. Seriously, and this is weird, our blog even uses the same WordPress theme. Were your efforts to sort out your Visas a total nightmare too? That would make me feel better… Anyway, enough from the total stranger. Hope you had a good trip to Neuschwanstein!

Ha! That’s fantastic! Thanks for your random stranger comment.

Normally I would say “our visa have been a total nightmare”, but I think they were only a total nightmare for my wife, who did most of the work. Also, we have an unexpected (and still pending) story here about being reported to the police, that will probably eventually make it’s way to a blog post. Long story short, be sure to translate ALL the text on your visa, not just the stuff you think might be important.

Neuschwanstein was mostly awful. It’s a story for another blog post. One of these days, I’m going to sit down and write again, I swear.

Good luck with your adventure! And seriously, try the weird meat. Some of it is delicious.
